ASPIRE Med Center reveals what to use between appointments

TotalBeauty.com
19 New Ways to Style Your Hair

New Year, new look? It's easy with these hairstyle ideas

This year, why not resolve to try a new hairstyle? (It's a lot easier than giving up carbs or training for a marathon.) With these how-tos it's a cinch to do. Finally, a New Year's Resolution we can all achieve.

See styles

This summer I visited with Dr. Michaels in Las Vegas at Aspire Med Center for some inside information on Dysport. Now, to answer the many of you who are writing and asking about how to extend/preserve your treatments between appointments, here's some information straight from the doctors office!

All three products are created by a product line called "Prescribed Solutions" which is a medical grade, customizable product line.

The first product is called "Starting up face" which is a glycolic facial cleanser that gently exfoliates the skin with each use.

Next is a serum called, "Line Subtractor" that not only exfoliates with glycolic acid, but brightens and protects with a stable for of vitamin c called Stay-C, which reduces cellular damage and stimulates collagen growth.

Lastly, "Up the Anti" is a sunscreen that has a really nice tint to it. It goes with all skin types and colors, this product is a pretty serious sunblock, protection against 99.9% UVA/UVB sun exposure.

So you have your two main umbrella's, anti-oxidant protection and sunscreen. These products are a perfect compliment to any in office treatments we offer. They help our patients, "Protect their investment". I should mention that the "Line Subtractor" does need to be discontinued at least 3 days prior to chemical peels or laser treatments

Enjoy and schedule yourself a trip to Vegas and to Aspire Med Center!

Merry Christmas! & What a buffalo does for beauty

I s ure hope that your Christmas was the merriest ever! I didn't write because my air card needs new drivers and didn't work. Though while I was enjoying the celebration of Jesus being born, my photographer friend sent this from the Christmas he is enjoying. The photo is courtesy of Joel of JMG Photos and it's in Yellowstone National Park. I'm pretty sure this buffalo is having an ice mask before steaming off and adding a layer of moisturizer.

Glory to God! Halleluiah! Christmas is almost here! I just imagine that on the eve of this night, so many years ago, that Mary had a back ache, the smell of donkey in her nose and a set of contractions that are starting to come closer together. This same time , in that year and moment it was up to Joseph to find a safe place for his family to increase!

I love Christmas! I love Jesus and I'm so excited to be celebrating the birth of my Lord and Saviour with you too!

It's been one amazing year and as it comes to a close with such a joyous occassion I just can't help myself but celebrate! Shout for joy! For what was and what is yet to come because it's going to be grand! Real grand!

p.s. it's my personal opinion that how Mary kept her youthful good looks and prevented stretch marks in her pregnancy is olive oil all over. It's good for you, inside and out!

And I quote "You're paying for the perceived value of the package," says Allan Gorman, owner of Brandspa, a compnay that helps make brands more desirable. That comes from the December edition of Consumer Reports magazine.
What? Well, it does make sense doesn't it? Now, I could tell you more facts that came from the article, though I think this one will be worth you picking up the hard copy of the magazine for.

I know that all of us are cost savvy shoppers right now and saving every which way we can. It's a wee bit refreshing to have validated the idea to buy against the grain in gender labeling of products such as shave gel, antiperspirants, body washes, pain relievers and razor blades.

Threading: the art of hair removal

TotalBeauty.com
Hair Too Dark to Dye? Not Anymore

This how-to will prove that you can lighten even the darkest hair at home, easily!

Jet-black hair is gorgeous on its own, but sometimes it's nice to change this up a bit. You may have thought your hair was too dark to get any noticeable lightening from at-home hair color, but it's not true! You can do it with these tips.

See how-to

I've been a fan of threading though I've not actually had it done to myself. Why you ask? Because I barely have any eyebrow hair to begin with! Though , I have worked on many a lady who had her eyebrows waxed and golly talk about a wee mess to makeup over.

I have also worked on a lady who just left the threader and is now in my chair for makeup, and golly, how smooth the skin and clean the line of hair is!

So, this weekend I was accidentally at the mall, honestly, it was an accident except for the fact that I stumbled upon this threading station positioned in the middle of the mall aisleway and had both chairs filled with a line waiting.

True, I agree, that a partial partition to give some semblence of privacy to the person in the chair would be a great idea, but that's all talk at this point.

Here's the details: go to Tempe, to the Arizona Mills Mall, and just half way down the hallway after entering through the #3 doors you will find the kiosk with two chairs and two East Indian people threading brows and whatever else hairy area you may have.

To reach them and set up an appointment, reach them at eyebrowdesigner21 at yahoo dot com
or just go to the mall because by the looks of it, the scheduling is done on a first come first serve basis.

I did not have a chance to speak with them because they were busy and I was being bustled along in the crowd. I barely had a chance to grab a flyer!

Eyebrow shaping for men and women ( oh yeah men, you need this!) $10
Chin threading $6
Upper lip $6
Side burns $6, each side
Full face is $30.00

Those of you who get waxing will sigh and relax at the price because it's less than traditional waxing and you get better results.
Enjoy!

Going blonde at home?

TotalBeauty.com
How to Get Blonde Hair at Home

This how-to will show you how to get sunny highlights cheaply and easily

Scared to lighten your hair at home? Don't feel bad, it can be a little intimidating. Luckily, this how-to will walk you through it step by step, so there's no fear (and no mistakes!).

See how-to

I write this with fear and tredpidation: blonde hair at home? Have you ever encountered the drugstore product Sun-In? I repeat: doing blonde hair at home should be taken on with extreme caution. So step away f rom the box of wine and rethink going blonde on your own.

It's safe to color your own hair with in one to two shades of your natural color, after that: you should seek a professional.

Sometimes that's your pal and even they should step away from the left over keg and think twice about doing blonde unsupervised in a house.

A story for another post is the time I "highlighted" with the household Reynolds wrap foil my friends hair. We are still friends, but ...well, that's another story entirely.

Oh tis the season for giving! Wow! Today's beauty bubble has a great list of gifts to give though I must share what I have been given!

I say it all the time " grace grace! ". Last night amid the twinkling lights of the Phoenix Zoo Lights event I was given an amazing present! True, I should have waited but somethings just have to be enjoyed immediately!

I was encouraged to open my gift, and when I did I was amazed! I am a fragrance junkie and love layers of perfume.

I received a roller ball bottle of Amazing Grace concentrated perfume oil from philosophy. I love it!

It's a great scent: light, floral, and sweet but not too sweet. Oh and the package is perfect for your purse and easy to travel with. I would say go get some right now, though it's so popular it can be difficult to find; especially now in the busy Christmas giving season.

True Stories: Women Who Strip for Beauty Products

Read these shocking tales of the extreme lengths women will go in order to pay for beauty

Check out these amazing true stories -- and maybe you won't feel quite as ridiculous for raiding your savings account to pay for that blow out.

Day 2 Flextastic, dry skin, oil and you

TotalBeauty.com
At-Home Peels to Try -- and Ones to Avoid

TotalBeauty.com readers have tested a ton and are sharing which ones are worth the money

No time or cash to head to the spa for a facial? No worries, we found the best at-home products that will give you real results (we also found a few that didn't quite live up to their claims so you don't waste your money). Check them out and say hello to softer, clearer skin now!

See peels

Worst: No. 4: Patricia Wexler M.D. Exfoliating Glyco Peel System, $60

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 6.5

It burned readers' skin and "didn't do much" for acne either …

The Best: No. 10: DERMAdoctor Physical Chemistry Facial Microdermabrasion + Multiacid Chemical Peel, $75

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 8.9

It "brightens," "smooths" and makes skin look "clear and younger" after the first use …

No. 9: Kinara Red Carpet Facial Kit, $145

TotalBeauty.com average reader rating: 9.1

This facial kit will give you "fabulous skin just like a celebrity for half the price …"

Want to see the rest of the list? Click here!

Ok, I'm going to have to personally research and try some of the brands that are mentioned in today's beauty bubble because I am an acid facial lover and if it is gritty, it's for me!
Alas, I am out of my 10% glycolic toner f rom Dermalogica. Did it burn? Sure. It also gave great skin clarity and results!

So more on those at home facial peels as they come in...

Now, on to the Flextastic. I understand that the foot is a map of the body. So what happens when you spread your toes? In me? It feels likes something pulls then loosens between my shoulder blades. Look, I'm not the expert just the guinnea pig and that's my honest results. I do like their cool blue squishy feel between my un-pedi'd toes. In honor of this experiement I have removed my toe polish.

Finally, in the Arizona winter you may be experiencing extremely dry skin even though you drink alot of water and use good petroleum free body lotion. So what are you to do? Try a store brand body oil, either Neutrogena or Palmer's. After you shower and lightly dry yourself, rub a good amount in until your skin is glisteny and let it set for a bit. Use this time to add leave in conditioner to your hair, apply some facial serums or brush your teeth. Whatever you do, don't rush the process of allowing your body oil to soak in before getting dressed. If you don't allow soak in time the oil will just end up on the inside of your clothing.

Enjoy the beauty bubble and go slather up.

Say hello to my little friends! I just received the Flext-Tastic toe massagers. These blue squishy gel forms massage and relieve sore feet. So I'm going to test it! Dry itchy winter skin needs moisture! In layers!

TotalBeauty.com
Solutions for All Your Winter Skin Issues

Need help with dry, chapped skin and lips? We've got the answers

Cold weather outside and dry heat inside can really do a number on your skin. If you've tried slathering on every lotion you can get your hands on to no avail, then you need these expert tips to fight dry skin. We talked to Arielle N.B. Kauvar, M.D., director of New York Laser & Skin Care, and Liz Earle, a natural skin care expert, to find out what ingredients, methods and products work best to get you soft, silky skin all season long.

See tips

Okay! If it's winter, it's dry yet you notice that it's a different type of dry than when the summer sun burns your skin.
Remember to moisturize in layers: such as following these simple steps:
1. Drink alot of water by sipping through out the day
2. Keep a humidifier in your sleeping area and run every other night
3. Layer a body oil on in the shower ( watch for increased slipperyness!)
4. Add a layer of body lotion before you get dressed and before you go to bed

Remember to use a product that is low to no petrolatum in it for maximum effectiveness!

If you are a caffeine or alcohol drinker remember to add more water to your diet because the effects of imbibing or sipping are twice as drying on the skin and hair!

It's okay to go to bed with a thick layer of creme on your feet and cotton socks too!

A hair dryer is to a stylist: what a makeup brush is to a makeup artist

TotalBeauty.com
Top 10 Hair Dryers

Get dry hair, minus frizz or damage, quick and easy with one of these

In this weather, no one should be stepping outside with wet or damp hair. Since most of us don't have time to sit around and wait for our heads to air-dry, we need something to speed things up a bit. Enter these fabulous hair dryers. They'll get you the style you want and keep damage, frizz and time spent to a minimum. TotalBeauty.com readers love them, so why shouldn't you?

See hair dryers

Hello and welcome to another confirmation of an a-ha moment: today's beauty bubble is really worth a click through because it confirms what I have been hearing for years and never really appreciated til now.

Hair stylists talk alot about hair dryers. I've been in the chair and heard the stylist talking about "their favorite", "how they would make a dryer", and on and on. There in the back of mind I was thinking, "who cares, it blows air".

Oh no. There is more to it and the beauty bubble will help you with it. Personally, as an artist, my brushes are everything. I can work with my fingers if I have to and still make you look amazing; though if given the choice I have several sets and depending on the situation I can pull from my arsenal to deliver the goods! Boo yah!

I've got some "pending" makeup artistry events coming up in 2010 and I'll let you know the details as they firm up.

The good news is: you'll be saving $150 right off the back because you won't be paying my normal client fee. Phew! Makes you wanna dance doesn't it!

Now, flex your wallet because the product line is worth the experience. :) Stay tuned!
