Hair Tutorials: 7 Incredibly Chic Ways to Wear Bobby Pins

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Quick update on a back dated blog post-again, apologies! I got overwhelmed with work and travel.
I really liked this story that was shared with me from Latest Hairstyles. Enjoy a fresh way to use your bobby pins!

Hair Tutorials: 7 Incredibly Chic Ways to Wear Bobby Pins
Content is free to use with a proper credit & link back given to and Wendy Rose Gould. Photos can only be used as is; collages/custom graphics cannot be made with our images. Photo credit:
"Bobby pins sort of get the short end of the stick. I mean, they’re super utilitarian, obviously, but pretty much every single tutorial out there tells you they should be tucked away, hidden from the world and never to be seen by a single soul,"  explains Wendy Rose Gould beauty expert for hair tutorial and advice site
"Of course, there’s a time and place when you don’t want your bobby pins to show, but today we’re here to set the bobby pin free. We came up with some bobby pin inspiration for you and have given a how-to for each. If you’re feeling even more playful, try using brightly colored or metallic bobby pins as you experiment with these incredibly chic ways to wear bobby pins."

#1 The Half-Up Bobby Pin Nest

How To: After teasing your hair at the crown and gently combing it out, pull back half of your hair to create a half-up hairdo. Instead of securing hair with an elastic, though, twist it twice to the right and then begin inserting bobby pins to secure. Don’t worry about being strategic or uniform or symmetrical. Instead, create a messy nest of bobby pins. Not only will your hair be very secure, but it’ll look cool. The more bobby pins and the more haphazard their placement, the more “on purpose” it will look.

#2 The Half Up Braided and Bobbied

How To: Create two small-to-medium braids on either side of your head. Pull them to the back until they meet and then insert four criss-crossed bobby pins. For an additional touch, and so people know you’re not ashamed of your bobby pin game, insert three horizontal bobby pins above the braids at the center of your head.

#3 The Messy Bun Meets Bobby

How To: Gather your hair near the crown of your head as if you’re going to put it in a messy ponytail. Begin wrapping it around itself, then secure the entire bun with a clear elastic. Keep your bun very loose, very casual and very undone. From there, add three sets of two bobby pins around the bun.

#4 The No Reason Zigzag

How To: This one’s great because the bobby pins serve no purpose other than to look pretty. Just above your ear, insert two diagonal bobby pins. From there, create a zigzag by adding two additional bobby pins on top and then two below.

#5 The Super Side Swept Lattice

How To: Create a very deep side part, pulling a large portion of your hair to one side of your face. Insert two bobby pins point away from your face. From there, fold over a small section of the pulled aside hair and insert two addition bobby pins (this time toward your face) to keep the fold in place. Repeat, this time pulling hair from the front portion of your pulled aside hair and folding it over. Insert two more bobby pins to keep it in place, again with bobby pins pointing away from your face. Repeat once more on the other side of the pulled aside section, bobby pins pointing toward your face again. Don’t get too caught up in making this look perfect or the same as the image featured here. Just keep folding sections of the hair back and forth and securing with alternating bobby pins to create a lattice.

#6 The Covered Pony

How To: Divide your hair into three sections, with the largest section in the middle and two smaller sections on either side. Gather the middle section into a low ponytail and secure with a clear elastic. Drag one section of hair over the top of the ponytail and wrap it around, securing with a bobby pin. Repeat on the other side. On either both sides or one side (your choice), insert four fanned out bobby pins.

#7 The Pinned Rosette

How To: Gather a small section of your hair above your ear and gently twist the hair around itself to create a spiral. Place the rosette flat against your head and insert two criss-crossed bobby pins.

Demi Moore looks amazing: red carpet at the SAG Awards

Hi ya Gorgeous,
This post, is actually a back dated post. Getting ready to travel and work and visit and just experience all that this past trip to Newport and LA Live had for me, I didn't get my daily blog posts up.
So sorry about that.
Going forward with good intentions and a back dated post for the SAG Awards and Demi Moore.

Demi Moore at the Screen Actors Guild Awards
Makeup by Charlotte Tilbury

Tonight, presenter Demi Moore stunned in a vintage Zac Posen gown with a timeless and elegant makeup look created by makeup artistCharlotte Tilbury.
When asked about the look, Tilbury said, “Demi and I wanted the makeup to match the elegance of the Zac Posen gown. I chose to go with my signature Dolce Vita eye look to enhance Demi’s amazing green eyes.”
Below, Tilbury shares the key steps she took to create Demi’s look:

1.       To prep Demi’s skin and ensure a flawless canvas, Charlotte applied Magic Cream to the entire face and then Magic Eye Rescue to the eye area. Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow was applied to create a flawless soft focus finish, which acted as the perfect base to the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation in 6 Medium (NEW – available in March 2016).
2.       Charlotte applied Charlotte Tilbury Mini Miracle Eye Wand in Shade 2 underneath the eyes, then used The Retoucher Concealer in 3 Medium where needed and rid the skin of any unwanted oils with a dusting of Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder in 3 Dark.

3.       Next, Charlotte used Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift in Cara D to perfect Demi’s brows and frame her face.
4.       For the eyes, Charlotte applied her Luxury Palette in The Dolce Vita to make Demi’s green eyes sparkle, and then applied Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl in Barbarella Brown in a feline flick on the top lash line to elongate her beautiful lashes. The eyes were finished with Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara on top and bottom lashes.
5.       Charlotte then used Hollywood favorite Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow in Light-Medium to highlight and add a subtle glow.
6.       Charlotte applied Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blusher in onto the apples of Demi’s cheeks.
7.       To complete the look, Charlotte lined Demi’s lips with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Hollywood Honey and followed with Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Bond Girl.

Beyonce Heat Kissed fragrance; my early Valentine's day review

Hi ya Gorgeous,
Wild Wednesday it is. There is so much to do to get ready for Gen Beauty! So stinkin' excited!
On Monday I had makeup clients in Vegas and had to take Mancub to the Mandalay Bay aquarium...oy, that's a whole other blog post in it's self.
Then to wrap up the day, I had a quick family photo session with Alan Chapman of Desert Sun Photography.
The proofs are just coming in, like this one. Onward and upward with the day!

So today I have to share early a Valentine's Day fragrance story I was holding for the first week of February. But I love fragrance so much I wanted to post now and give you a chance to get this new scent in the Beyonce Heat line or at least drop a big enough hint that you want it for a gift!

 Meet Beyonce Heat Kissed

The lush, beguiling blend opens with fruity top notes surrounding the rich heart of the fragrance, giving the scent its lively vibrance. Exotic woody notes then combine with an infusion of vanilla to create a warm, evocative aroma.

Top Notes

Dragonfruit, Lychee, Ripe Mango

Heart Notes

Blazing Red Fury Orchid, Jasmine Sambac, Moroccan Rose Oil

Base Notes

African Sandalwood, Vanilla, Patchouli

For me personally, this scent is very vanilla'y on my skin and it lasted for some time, but it lasted in the vanilla stage.
My favorite Beyonce Heat fragrance is the Wild Orchid. This one does not disappoint for scent and staying power, though it's definitely very vanilla.

You can find this at mass retailers everywhere and it comes alone or in gift sets.
Get some!

How to know if you are over-whitening your teeth by Dr. Timothy Chase

 Hi ya Gorgeous,
The month of January is almost over! Where did it go? February brings many events and with a massive amount of photo opportunities coming up you may be tempted to whiten your teeth more than normal.

Here is some tooth whitening tips from an expert!

Dr. Timothy Chase, Cosmetic Dentist and Practicing Partner at SmilesNY.

Three signs of over whitening:
1.       Sensitive teeth, especially to cold
2.      Inflamed or bleeding gums
3.       Teeth that look blue or see through along the edge

Three health risks that arise from over whitening
1.       Damage to the nerves your teeth
2.       Thinning of your tooth enamel
3.       Burning of your gums

Three ways to safely and effectively whiten
1.       Have your teeth examined and cleaned prior to whitening- to make sure there are no cavities or gum issues and clean teeth get a much better result
2.       Follow the directions on all teeth whitening products perfectly
3.       Find quality products by speaking to your dentist about your teeth whitening options

How pregnant ladies shave their legs: meet The Giraffe

Hi ya Gorgeous!
Monday. Hello you sly dog you. I'm feeling better'ish and have to so that I can make it to all the appointments and clients for today. It's a long busy day of travel and then some. Grace grace to me!

Now I received a sample of a most ingenius persuasion, it's called The Giraffe.

It's what someone with a back problem, pregnancy, recent surgery or showers in a very small space could use to reach their lower legs.

The Giraffe Product Features

  • A razor Extension Handle Designed to customize your disposable or reusable razor.
  • Two universal razor attachments small and large, that snap onto the head of the handle to secure the razor in place.
  • Telescoping handle
  • Pivoting head provides 3 different angles, 30 degrees, 45 degrees, and 90 degrees.
  • Minimizes the risk of falling or slipping in the shower.
This is available on for about $30.

I used mine while so sick and not wanting to bend over and let any more snot roll to my nose as possible. My Venus razor fit well, and felt secure. I did not have any difficulty using this and will be passing my sample on to my Grandma to use as she has a hip replacement with limited mobility.

P.S. This could even be used for shaving the back if you are so inclined to do so.

How to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day next week with a healthy treat

Hi ya Gorgeous,
Ok, so the flu funk is slowly lifting and it may have to do with all of the raw garlic and raw onions I wore in my socks or the antibiotic I had to start taking. Whatever the reason, I'm feeling .002% better.

While I continue to heal, here is a recipe for the upcoming National Chocolate Cake Day January 27th celebrations-and how to do it healthy!

You can celebrate and stay healthy for Chocolate Cake Day – January 27th! Indulge in your favorite dessert without the guilt thanks to celebrity nutritionist, Kimberly Snyder and her recipe for Triple-Layer Raw Chocolate Mint Cream Bars. They’re the perfect chocolatey treat that’s beauty food approved

Fun Fact: In its raw form, cacao contains many beneficial rejuvenating and antiaging elements, including antioxidants and magnesium -  so go ahead and celebrate with your new favorite sweet, we guarantee you won’t even miss the cake!
Kimberly first made this recipe in lieu of a birthday cake for a close friend which she now shares in her latest book, The Beauty Detox Power. The multiple layers of these Triple-Layer Raw Chocolate Mint Cream Bars add some prep time, but it is well worth it! A little piece goes a long way, and you can store these bars in your fridge for a few weeks – plus their loaded with beauty beneficial ingredients like dates, almonds and even avocados making them the perfect guilt-free treat!
Please see below for the full recipe, and let me know if you’d like additional info or images.

  • Parchment paper, for lining the loaf pan
  • 1⁄2 cup raw almonds
  • 1⁄2 cup raw pecans
  • 1 cup medium Medjool dates, soaked and well drained
  • 1⁄4 cup cacao powder Pinch of sea salt
  • 2 small ripe Hass avocados, peeled and pits removed
  • 1⁄3 cup minced fresh mint
  • 1⁄3 cup coconut nectar
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon organic peppermint flavor
  • 1⁄4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1⁄4 cup coconut oil
  • 1⁄4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 2 tablespoons coconut nectar
  1. Line the bottom of a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper. Be sure to leave an overhang so it’s easier to remove the finished bars. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the base. Combine the almonds and pecans in a food processor, and process to form to a coarse meal. Add the dates and process until the dates are broken down. Add the cacao powder and salt and pulse to combine. The nut-date mixture should stick together when pressed between two fingers. Press the nut-date mixture into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan and set in the freezer to make a crust while you prepare the filling.
  3. Prepare the filling. In a high-speed blender, process the avocados, mint, coconut nectar and peppermint flavor until smooth. You may need to stop the blender and scrape down the sides a few times. Add the melted coconut oil and blend for a few seconds to combine. The mint mixture should be thick and creamy. (If your blender doesn’t process the mixture very well, try blending it in batches until smooth.)
  4. Remove the loaf pan from the freezer. Pour the avocado-mint mixture on top of the nut-date crust, smoothing it out with an offset spatula or the back of a spoon. Return the loaf pan to the freezer and let the avocado-mint layer get firm, at least 1 hour.
  5. Prepare the chocolate topping. You’re almost there! Last layer, here we go. Whisk together all the ingredients in a small bowl until smooth.
  6. Remove the loaf pan from the freezer once again and pour the chocolate topping on top of the avocado-mint layer, smoothing it out quickly with an o set spatula or the back of a spoon. Return the loaf pan to the freezer one last time and allow the top- ping to set, at least 1 to 2 hours.
  7. To cut this into bars, remove the triple-layer block from the loaf pan by pulling up on the parchment paper. Set it on a cutting board. Place a sharp serrated knife in a jar of hot water for several minutes, wipe it with a kitchen towel, and then, using a light sawing motion, cut the block into squares. It’s okay if the top cracks (I think it actually looks pretty that way), but try to keep all the layers intact. Warm the knife in the water as needed to cut all the squares.
  8. Store the bars in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a 3 weeks (if they last that long!).

How to use Burt's Bees to create a natural makeup look in 2016

Hi ya Gorgeous,
I still have some form of what I suspect is the modern day bubonic plague. It must be such an epic strain of sickness to get me down. You see, I never get sick. Not the sniffles. Not a cold. Not the flu.  When every one else around me gets sick, I do not.

Until, this week. Holy moly. I made it through CES where the people I worked with and the people who attended the event were sick. Yet. I remained unscathed. Then my Dad went to a doctor appointment at the VA and came home with a cold. Or something plague'ish. He got it. My Mom got it. I got it. Now my Mancub has it.

Geez, it's like I'm living the movie Contagion. Alas, I digress.

So I received some samples from Burt's Bees and I'm a huge fan of the brand to begin with but these 2 new products are absolutely amazing. Overall, they are awesome. The fact that the BB Creme is 98.9% natural is one more reason to love this brand.

Going forward, the spring 2016 look is going to be natural with touches of gilded golds and bronze colors. So these products from Burt's Bees will help you get your best spring break beauty on!

Critic's Choice Awards: TRESemme stylist John D's modern pony tail

 Hi ya Gorgeous,
Thank goodness for a press update on what happened at the Critic's Choice Awards. I'm still down with some funky bug. I never get sick. I mean, never. I suspect that the constant travel, stress, and such has finally caught up to me.

Oy. Who knew the body could do such strange things.

Going forward, here is a easy to follow tutorial on a modern take for the classic pony tail by TRESemme celebrity stylist John D. Enjoy!

TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist John D. helped this Hollywood actress step out in style for the 2016 Critic’s Choice Awards. She stunned in a dark navy Dior dress with a slit in the front that exposed a silver sequined skirt. “To keep the look fresh and modern, we decided to create a sleek low ponytail wrapped with a silver cording around the base to add interest and match the silver accents of her dress,” said John D.

Follow John D.’s tips to re-create this look:
1)    Apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray to clean dry hair in sections before flat ironing to smooth the lengths, control frizz and protect from excess heat damage.
2)    After hair is straightened throughout, use a comb to create a deep side part. Then, gently brush hair towards the nape of the neck and secure into a low ponytail with an elastic.
3)    Wrap silver cording or ribbon around the elastic to add interest to the look and create a chic finish.
4)    Spritz TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Non-Aerosol Hairspray over the finished style and use a fine-toothed comb to smooth down flyaways and leave hair sleek and shiny.
Products Used:

How to use a derma roller at home

Hi ya Gorgeous!
I love a beauty tool and at home spa helper and I have begun to do an at home "derma rolling" treatment to the damaged skin on my chest.

This skin has seen decades of sun and the majority of that was without sunscreen so I have deep scarring and wrinkles with a red look that is permanent from sun damage.

I've been having my doctor check the area yearly for any signs of cancer but there are none.

I've also talked with dermatologists and plastic surgeons about solutions to smooth the skin and there does not seem to be any non-invasive or dangerous 50/50 choices that may or may not work and could possibly make the skin worse and more damaged.

So I got a simple derma roller, watched a lot of "how to" videos on YouTube and now I'm on a 30 day challenge  (1 full cycle of treatment) to see the effect.

I'm using a .05 derma roller. I sterilize it in 91% alcohol for an hour before I use, and an hour after I use. I roll the derma roller on a piece of alcohol soaked paper towel after treatment to remove any funky chunks that may be too small to see but clinging on.

My main goal is to help stimulate the collagen growth of the skin in the deepest ravines of the chest area in my permanent red sunburned area.

My second goal is to not give myself an infection from my at home spa treatment.

So I'm on my 3rd treatment. I had planned to do a derma rolling session once every seven days, though I am too impatient for that.

Instead, I have been doing it once every 4 days.
Yes, it's a bit prickly. A touch sting. A slight bit of pain, but it's not bad. In fact, it feels more itchy than anything else.
I prep the chest area skin with a wipe of 91% alcohol first. Then derma roll for about a minute in an up down motion, sideways motion, and diagonal criss cross pattern.

I do not have bleeding of any sort, just redness. Then I apply my Sente Dermal Repair Creme to the treated area afterwards. I do not put anything on the skin and wear an open collared area shirt for at least 3 hours to let the area breathe and heal.

I have not had any infection or scabbing or adverse effects or results.

So far, I'm liking what's going on but have not seen any "noticeable" results. Yet! I will update this post at the end of the 30 days!

How about you? What at home spa treatments do you do? Do you use a derma roller too?

They are amazing for the beauty content creator or beauty enthusiast.

So this time around, I would like to do something different for the event!

Makeup University has two opportunities for the Generation Beauty event this month:
1) For the beauty lover who is attending, come join me for an on camera collab!  Watch the video for more info!

2) For the beauty lover who is NOT attending, Makeup University is giving away the goodie bag being given to attendees. Stay tuned for details on how to win that.

I pray this is your best beauty year ever!

How to get Lady Gaga's Golden Globe look

 Hi ya Gorgeous!

Today I have a "how to" video for you to get Lady Gaga's amazing on fleek look at the Golden Globe awards.

Did you watch? What did you think? Does this mean that The Revenant will take the Oscar for best picture? I want to see the movie but I'm pretty sure it has too much potty talk for me.

In this video I am introducing you to the new Makeup Revolution Affirmation palette. It's gorgeous and so begging to travel with me!

How to navigate the road to the award shows with Murad skincare

 Hi ya Gorgeous!
So did you watch the Golden Globes last night? Or maybe the People's Choice awards last week? Guess what, if that wasn't award show enough for you, the Oscars are coming.

I watched a little bit of last night's show but to me it seemed a little bit slow and a bit boring. I was surprised at how many of the celebrities cussed on stage and had to be bleep censored out.

I liked seeing Sylvester Stallone win and Lady Gaga because her beauty game was on fleek last night! Such classic glamour, it was refreshing to see. Tomorrow I have a video on a "how to"get her look.

If you are wondering how the celebrities stay camera ready, it's skincare and nutrition.

So let's take a loot at how Murad can get your skin to look like a celebrity and be red carpet ready for the Oscars!

How to find your way around CES with LIT NYC

Hi ya Gorgeous!

Happy Monday! So it's time to return back to life, back'ish to normal and start the "work" version of 2016.
I don't know about you, but me, I didn't do much work over the holiday. I mainly traveled and helped family.
While I was gone some fun blog samples arrived-like this light up lip gloss and nail polish from LIT NYC available at CVS.

It's interesting. A bit gimmicky. But interesting. I'm getting ready for the CES show (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas now. I think I will pack this with me just in case!

Here's a short video demonstrating the product. Enjoy.

How about you? How is your 2016 starting off?

How to use the Acne Free Sonic Advanced Cleansing Duo to remove long wearing foundations

Hi ya Gorgeous!

How is your new year treating you so far? Mine? It's going by as fast as ever and it's only the third day!

So there is a lot of events, and travel and hullabaloo coming up in the next few months and I'm ready for it with my face primers, long wearing foundations, setting powder and finishing sprays.

You know what all of that means? That my makeup removing skincare routine needs to up it's ante, right now!

So here's a lil ditty on how to use the Acne Free Sonic Advanced Cleansing Duo to remove long wearing  foundations and a look that was meant to look fresh and last all day but now needs to be completely removed to let the skin breathe and regenerate over night.

This is what I do:

I tend to wash my face twice: first with an oil or a purifying cleanser to deeply clean and remove all of the product. I wet my face, massage a small amount of the cleanser into my skin, and then wet the AcneFree Purifying Facial Cleansing Brush  which is more of a silicone nubby wash pad- and then use it to massage my face with the cleanser on it.

Rinse well.

Follow up with my moisturizing or hydrating cleanser for a deep clean that removes all traces of makeup!

For me, it's working great. For those of you who may have full blown acne, this may be a great tool to help clear up skin. For the rest of us who get an occassional breakout but use long wearing products, this is an excellent resource for keeping the skin clean and healthy!

You can find this at mass retailers nationwide!

  • Use once a day.  Dampen skin, rinse brush head and pat dry to remove excess water before attaching to brush unit.
  • Apply any AcneFree cleanser to the brush head, spreading a dime size amount evenly over brush surface; this will avoid product from splattering on to clothing while brush is in motion.  (Cleansers with Benzoyl Peroxide may bleach clothing/towels.)
  • Gently massage over face for approximately 60 seconds, concentrating on troubled areas.  Avoid the eye and mouth areas.  Be careful not to press too hard; this will limit the motion of the brush and reduce its effectiveness.
  • Rinse face, remove brush head and rinse thoroughly.
